LETTER FROM PRESIDENT TOM (LFPT) – GREAT MARCH MEETING

(Remember,  LFPT means fine information…)

Dear Broken Arrow Ham Club Members and Ham radio enthusiasts,

Last night was a great meeting and we had several great “Show and Tell” entries including vehicle antennas and installation without drilling, hands-free, variacs, oscilloscopes and the vote was close.

Congratulations to Bruce Bierma who won the QuikTrip gift card and certificate with his presentation after passing around his expensive vacuum tubes and sharing the “sad smoke generator” saga caused by improper and rough shipping.  We’ll do Show and Tell again and thanks to everyone who presented.

Other items of discussion were:

Upcoming Green Country Hamfest –  Friday, April 7th and Saturday, April 8, 2023 ·

Dr. Greg Meador brought to our attention House Bill 2228 regarding distracted driving.  The language seems to exclude Ham radios in their vehicles;  however, conversations with lawmakers and others could suggest that without a hands free radio, amateur radio operators could be ticketed if not involved in a weather emergency, etc.  If you have questions, here is the link to the bill.   http://webserver1.lsb.state.ok.us/cf_pdf/2023-24%20FLR/HFLR/HB2228%20HFLR.PDF     Representative Ross Ford, R-Broken Arrow is the author and perhaps his office could be reached for more clarifications.  If we get any additional clarifications, I’ll be happy to pass that on.

Although 2023 Scholarship Applications are closed, we are getting information and prepared for helping our young Ham operators apply as well as investigate ways to get into the schools for helping setup Ham Radio clubs.  Ham Radio School Outreach:  How to Talk About Amateur Radio with Schools .  ARRL Scholarship Info:  https://www.arrl.org/scholarship-program

Be looking for an upcoming survey for topics of interest as wells as future dates for Zoom learning, Elmer Troubleshooting via Zoom, at library, after Friday Breakfasts at Mom’s Cafe, etc.
